This is a series of images from the northern most coast the Pacific Northwest, south of the Quillayute River to Cape Flattery on the Washington coast. Other than the first image all the photographs are formatted to a 9 x16 wide angle size which provides at truer view of the land and seascape that was seen. All theses images are pre-digital and so are scans from slides.

Patterns

Gold Reflected

A Different World

Ghosts

Transformed

Flattery

Bones Uncovered

Wood and Iron

Colors

Waves

Perspective

Flow

Shore of Spring

On the Shore

Imprints in Sand

Sand of Patterns

A Broad View

At Work

A Sunset

Midwinter Sea

Subscribe

Back to Index
Subscribe
Subscribe Play Slideshow

Back to Album
Download
Play Slideshow

Previous Previous
Next Next

This is a collection of photographs taken at the Center for Wooden Boats in Seattle, Washington. The small boats, their beautiful details of there construction, and the setting at the south end of Lake Union with still water, make for some interesting photography. These photographs are a combination of recent digital photos and scans of slides.

My friend Webb Chiles, after viewing several of these images suggested the photographs were “compositions of resting dinghies.” I had not not thought of the the collection that way .......

Tug Boat Sand Man

Rebuilt and Restored 1910 Tugboat. First ran into her aboard my families little schooner "Old Salt" in the 1970's, while she was still working.

I took these while visiting family February 2010.

These are High Dynamic Range Photographs made by combining 3 photographs at different exposures. This method brings out both detail and color. Clouds and rain were not helpful.

I grew up in Olympia and knew the Sand Man when she was a working tugboat. After years of neglect and even sinking - she has been beautifully rebuilt. Thanks for giving me access Tug Sand Man!
